Midnight Rising

For London’s Southeast Asian communities joy has always been political.

2 minute excerpt

In London there’s a new generation of underground rhythmic resistance unfolding

We mentored up and coming Director, Aileen Ye, who we had met through judging EVCOM’s FOCUS award scheme, working with her to develop and produce a short documentary that reveals the unique underground London music scene created by East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities. Here, rave culture, experimental fashion, sexuality, and hyper pop combine to become an affirmation of love, freedom, and acceptance. However, beneath the joyful surface is an undercurrent of generational and political rebellion. The full film of Midnight Rising is now enjoying a successful festival run, screening so far at Dublin International Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival in the US, Cinemasia in Amsterdam, and Queer East in London.
