Frying Tonight

The Brief

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of fish and chips, we went behind the counter of a typical British family fish and chip shop to produce a long-form documentary that explores the family ties that lie behind the enduring success of the UK’s no.1 takeaway food.

Frying Tonight was selected for inclusion in Sheffield Doc Fest's digital festival and screened on the Community Channel.

Our Thinking

The film tells the story of a young British fish-frier who is striving to takeover and modernise his ageing family fish and chip shop, following his journey over 18 months from the confines of his parent’s fish and chip shop to the prestigious ‘Young Fish Frier of the Year Award’ competition in London and beyond.

Working with industry bodies, the National Federation of Fish Friers and Seafish, our aim was to get beyond the stereotypes and bring to life an evolving industry that is attracting a new generation of young, food-conscious fish friers.
